Pre-Trip: Ljubljana, Slovenia

Pre-Trip Plan

4 October 2019 22:30: Leave London by bus (I am using Flixbus)

5 October 05:00: Arrive Ljubljana

It is at this second that I’ve realised, because I know my bus journey is 30 hours long, I can’t be arriving on the 5th! Will need to change my accommodation booking (again!)…

6 October 05:00 (local time): Arrive Ljubljana

Get breakfast until can drop bags off at 08:00, check in from 14:00.

6 October 08:00 – 10 October 18:00: Exploring Ljubljana!

Stats
Ljubljana population: 288,337 (2016)
Slovenia population: 2.066m (2017)
Slovenia area: 20,273 km2
Slovenian currency: Euro
October Weather
8C – 16C average
85.3mm rain – nearly three times the average for my hometown!
Daylight hours 07:00 – 18:30

Things to do in Ljubljana!
Tivoli Park – 500 hectares of parkland next to my hostel!
Antique Flea Market – Breg Embankment
Ljubljana Marshes – Hiking! Marshes! Lakes! Sounds like a home from home! Possible cycle hire to get there, only 9 miles away from hostel.
Alpine Lakes of Slovenia – Trip ran by the hostel, includes Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj
City Museum of Ljubljana – I always like to learn a little bit about the history of wherever I’m visiting and this four-floor museum sounds very interesting! I am rather partial to Roman history (having been reading the Vespasian series by Robert Fabbri since 2014!), and it turns out that Ljubljana is built on the Roman city of Emona! There is a trail where you can see “beautifully preserved remains of Roman houses” as well as two archaeological parks.

I think Ljubljana is already one of my favourite places!
As an environmentalist, I am very excited that Ljubljana is also the first Zero Waste capital in Europe!
50 days to go!

Lonely Planet describe Ljubljana as “elegant and leafy”
