Don’t know!

I have handed in my notice at work and so the countdown has begun. I actually gave it in a month ago, one down, three to go…

I don’t know when I’m going to be actually off – maybe Friday 4th October.

I don’t know where I’m going first – perhaps to Barcelon by train or bus, and stay there for a few days on the east coast, before getting public transport to Budapest.

Barcelona to Budapest route

If I did this, I would go through Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, and then into Hungary, which sounds incredible to me! If I go, I’m hoping I’ll be able to meet up with Sára who I met in the Yosemite backpackers hostel in California last year. She works in architecture and lives just outside Budapest, so it would be great to meet up again.

From Budapest I’ll fly to Delhi, India, to then go on my two week guided trip to Kathmandu, Nepal (which I still need to book! – G Adventures).

I have applied to volunteer in Thamel, Kathmandu, working on a green community project with Kathmandu Environmental Education Project but I have not heard back from them yet.

I don’t know what I’m going to do after Nepal. I was planning on going straight to Thailand and do the usual backpacker trail but the more I look the more there is to see and do. So much more of India – Bengal in the east and Goa in the west to name only two places. Sri Lanka, Madagascar, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, even Mongolia! The more I think about it, the more I’d like to go overland – you can take in the sights of the landscapes and contribute less to CO2 emissions.

I could get a visa for 15, 30 or 90 days when arriving in Nepal (extendable) and it doesn’t appear that I’ll need proof of onward travel for the initial visa, so I guess I don’t really have to have a plan beyond arriving in Kathmandu!

I don’t know what language to learn, maybe Thai or Japanese? I did try Hindi for a day! I don’t think any of them will be straightforward, but I don’t know what would be more useful because I don’t know where I will be spending more of my time. I could spend 90 days in Japan without a visa, although I don’t know if my funds would last that long! Maybe I’ll try Thai.

I don’t know a lot of things, but that’s ok! Plans are forming bit by bit, with all the room for spontaneous adventures still remaining intact.

I wonder what’s next!
