I can’t believe I’ve only been planning my trip for two weeks, since the morning after I got back from California.
Firstly, I’ve got a new domain!
I thought I’d treat myself and thought that it might encourage me to keep blogging and keep travelling (rtw – round the world… not round half of the world!).
Route
I went for travel advice last week and my route plans have changed. Instead of spending ~18 months on the road, I’m planning on combining volunteering, group tours and solo travel around some of Europe, India and (hopefully) a lot of Southeast Asia, before stopping in Australia/NZ for a year or two on a working holiday visa. It will allow me to earn some more money and plan my next move. Who knows, I might be fed up by then and want to go home!
Planning
I’ve been reading Shannon’s A Little Adrift blog on Travel Planning Resources and am beginning to appreciate the range of things to think of (health/sickness, visas, currency, overland travel, bag packing, insurance, culture research, weather, festivals, work, tech, etc…). Therefore I went out and bought a new scrapbook to keep all the important and useful information in one place, and to have a little record of how everything took shape. 😊
Saving
According to my calculations, in 2 weeks, I’ve already saved over £500! This includes working extra, cancelling my Amazon Prime subscription and saving up some wages as I got paid this week. This doesn’t include expenses such as taxing and insuring my new old car as I am using my savings for that so my travel pot can keep increasing!
One cool thing I’m using is a Revolut card. I got it for California as you can hold different currencies on it, but now I’m using it back home because it has a function called “Vaults” on it. This means that whenever you spend on the card, it will round it up to the nearest £ and save the pennies in a named vault – another little easy way to add to savings! As the proverb goes:
Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.
Savings: £591 = 2.96%!
